2:31 AM · Feb 12, 2020There still is a winter weather advisory for the summits of Hawaii Island and Maui from NWS: Haleakala Summit-Big Island Summits- 341 PM HST Tue Feb 11 2020 ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM HST WEDNESDAY... * WHAT....Ice that accumulated Monday and that has been melting during the day will refreeze overnight on roads and structures. There will be a chance of snow showers and freezing rain as well. * WHERE...Haleakala and Big Island Summits above 9,000 feet. * WHEN...Until 6 AM HST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery and hazardous road conditions leading to road closures. (the Mauna Kea Access Road was still closed to the public when I wrote this post but was opened a bit after 5 p.m. - be careful if you go up there.)
Mauna Kea Access Road is closed again as of 4 a.m. Wednesday 2/12/2020 - will update when it gets opened. the winter weather advisory has been extended until noon today.

Big Island Summits- Including the city of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea Above 8000 feet 336 PM HST Wed Feb 12 2020 ...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST THURSDAY... * WHAT...Southeast winds 35 to 50 mph with localized gusts to 65 mph expected. * WHERE...Big Island Summits. * WHEN...Until 6 PM HST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Winds this strong will make driving difficult. (and, you may have guessed it, the road is closed to the public again. In addition to wind there is also fog and below freezing temperatures)
