Weekly Quick Update - Kīlauea Surface Quiet, Alert Lowered, EQ As We Go Live

6:35 AM · Mar 25, 2023

It's been two weeks without surface activity on Kīlauea, despite a small intrusion and continued land movements on the volcano. Accordingly, the USGS has lowered Kīlauea's alert status from Orange/Watch to Yellow/Advisory this week. As we were getting ready to begin our weekly update a magnitude 3.9 earthquake occurred on Mauna Loa. The location and deformation data suggest this was a settling earthquake from the recent Mauna Loa eruption. (This is a clip from our weekly volcano update on Hawaii's volcanoes. We film live at 5pm HST every Thursday, come and join our discussion in the chat.) https://youtu.be/IAipVuvFu9A
