Uēkahuna Overlook Morning Views
9:43 PM · Aug 13, 2021There is still quiet at the summit of Kīlauea volcano, physically felt late at night or in the early morning, before the excitement of visitors to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park starts to trickle across the landscape. At Uēkahuna, the areas surrounding the damaged Jaggar Museum were reopened in early June, and while the museum itself and former overlook remain permanently closed, there are still spectacular views from the highest points on the rim of Kīlauea caldera accessible to the public. These morning images capture the viewing area, summit caldera, rain clouds over Puna and neighboring Maunaloa.
