State Issues Emergency Proc - Mana Road Fire Update, Aug 4, 2021

A couple flair-ups today on the Maunakea made for hazy conditions coming over the saddle late this morning. The flare-ups were identified first by members of the community on the more remote slopes of the Mauna, and then addressed by the Pohokola Training Area helicopters that dropped water on the fire. Gov. David Ige has signed an emergency declaration for Hawai'i County, allowing for Mayor Mitch Roth to usage of the Disaster Fund to help provide support for the county's efforts with the Mana Road Fire. FEMA has also authorized the used of Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG), allowing those that responded to the disaster to apply for federal assistance for 75% of eligible firefighting costs. - 95% contained. - Flare-ups today were extinguished quickly. - Fire downgraded yesterday from emergency to normal operations. - Further FEMA requests for additional funding to help residents is in progress.
