Rainbow over Halemaʻumaʻu from Keanakākoʻi
2:43 AM · Oct 7, 2021From the new overlook near Keanakākoʻi in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, a series of rainbows appeared over the lava erupting in the crater this morning. The new West Vent, directly visible, was continuing to build from the fall-out of sustained lava fountains 50 feet, or 15 meters, high, and its rumbles were audible from the edge of the caldera. The lava lake's black crust occasionally burst open with fresh redness. Nēnē flew by in pairs, their honks punctuating the volcanic bass... a magical morning on Kīlauea! #Kilauea2021
