QUICK TAKE - Latest Changes Pohoiki Beach
3:36 AM · Nov 23, 2021New Aerial footage of how the Pohoiki Beach has developed and progressed over the last few years following the end of the 2018 eruption of Kilauea. Volcanic sand generated by the ocean entry was driven by the predominate tides into Pohoiki Bay from the north at the tail end of activity. The resulting black sand beach quickly inundated the bay in the months after lava stopped flowing out of Ahu ʻAilāʻau (Fissure 8) blocked access to the area's only boat ramp. Plans have been made for a dredge of the sand out of the bay to reopen the ramp and have been submitted to FEMA, who determined that an Environmental Assessment would be required. That Environmental Assessment is still pending. https://youtu.be/LJW3HDrXlSs
