Legendary Volcanologist Don Swanson Gives Virtual Tour Of Kilauea Caldera

Prior to the 2020-2021 eruption, Don Swanson filmed a virtual tour of the Kilauea summit for USGS. Don shares his insights on the history of Kilauea in the last 500 years, and showcases some of the massive changes at the summit during the 2018 eruption with the 62 collapse events and rapid withdrawal of the lava lake down the Lower East Rift Zone. One of the most interesting parts for me is Don's explanations of the 230–370 year old ash deposits from a period of explosive activity at Kilauea.
