Lava reappears inside the Kilauea Caldera, temporarily at least*

5:22 AM · Mar 9, 2023

This evening, lava poked back inside of the inner pit of Halema'uma'u, where lava has been accumulating over the past 2 eruptions. Some glow can be seen now from the KWcam. This morning, USGS noted that some ooze-ups were possible. "Monitoring data also suggest that no new lava is being emplaced under the crusted crater floor, but it is possible that previously accumulated lava may feed further ooze-outs at the surface"
