Kīlauea & Maunaloa Update, August 26, 2021

3:04 AM · Aug 27, 2021

Kīlauea's 478-earthquake swarm and associated intrusion beneath the south caldera between August 23rd and 25th appear to be over without leading to an eruption. We deep-dive into the sequence and what the seismic patterns may tell us, as well as other monitoring signals and reports courtesy of the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, who have lowered the volcano's alert levels back to Advisory/Yellow. As usual, we also discuss live viewer questions and touch base on the still-quiet Maunaloa volcano. This program is brought to you in part by a grant from the Hawaiʻi Island Strong Fund of the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation in partnership with the County of Hawaiʻi, and from smaller donations from viewers like you. https://youtu.be/ScPH-tR6KpE
