Kīlauea Eruption Update: Vent & Crater Floor Changes

Great lava viewing at Kīlauea's summit over this past week with only one day of pause, as the eruption continues to follow the general pattern of the past few months. The various lava ponds continue to grow divisions, while the West Vent complex continues to evolve with smaller spatter cones replacing the large single cone which used to be present, but has been largely buried in new lava. Cracks continue to evolve on the crater floor, circling the original buoyant crust from the 2020-21 eruptive phases. Lava output and gas emissions continue to reflect minor changes in ground tilt, and vog remains the most significant impact to island people, with otherwise no change in current volcanic threat.
