Kīlauea Eruption Update, Day 50: February 8, 2021

3:25 AM · Feb 9, 2021

Over the weekend, Kīlauea's West Vent continued to erupt and pour lava into Halemaʻumaʻu crater, whose lava lake was slowly contracted. A pressure boost arrived on Saturday Night with the expected inflation portion of the deflation-inflation cycle ongoing since last week. New: - Crater lava depth increasing again, now 215 m / 705 ft deep - Dip in lava levels offers clues to structure beneath lakeʻs solid crust - Pressure stable after almost 48 hours of inflation We present publicly available USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory data streams & our produced time-lapse imagery from their web-cams while providing geologic context and annotation in our down-to-earth style. As usual, we also take live viewer questions during the update. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SEX97XJjEk&feature=youtu.be
