3:04 AM · Apr 3, 2021

Kīlauea's lava lake slowly deepens within Halemaʻumaʻu crater, follow-up on Maunaloa activity earlier in the week, and a historical photo special based on this week's Volcano Watch article: New on Kīlauea: - West Vent entry still sluggish but continuous, north branch dominant - Lava lake depth slowly deepens to 225 m / 738 ft - SO2 trending slightly higher between 700-1200 t/d - Discussion of lava oozing up crater edges On Maunaloa: - Earthquakes lessen after Tuesday peak - No increased imminence of eruption We present new video and photos, monitoring data, web images, and the weekly Volcano Watch article available courtesy of the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory on the current Kīlauea eruption, Maunaloa seismicity and monitoring signals, and dig up the photographic historical comparisons featured in the USGS weekly article between lava activity on the edges of the 1919-20 Halemaʻumaʻu crater and the 1959 Kīlaueaiki crater. As usual, we add our own time-lapse production from USGS webcam images, and address live viewer questions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5YX-XwIfO0
