12:25 AM · Jan 13, 2021If one is to understand the current situation, one must understand the history. In this stream highlight, Philip Ong explains the historical parallels with today's lava lake inside of Halema'uma'u Crater at the Kīlauea Summit with lava lakes of the past. Philip also explains the historical and geological pattern of 'collapse and refill' inside the Kīlauea Caldera. Maps shown date back to the lava lake in the years 1823, 1841, 1846, 1861, 1874, 1919, 1924, pre-2018 LERZ eruption, and post 2018 summit collapse. Stream highlight.
