Drones On - May 9th & 10th, 2018 Kilauea Eruption - PGV Pentane & Lava Intrusion

4:12 AM · May 15, 2021

Combined footage of days 7 & 8 of the 2018 Kilauea Eruption, May 9th and 10th. Fissure 15 emerge at far ends of Leilani Estates, but overall the eruption is calmer than the previous couple days. Puna Geothermal Venture issues with communication and moving 60,000 gallons of pentane from near the eruption site and earthquake activity suggests lava is on the move once more. This series tells one version of the 2018 Kilauea eruption on the Lower East Rift Zone, where lava erupted in a residential neighborhood. The story is told through available footage from many sources, including USGS, Hawaii Count Civil Defense, DoD, National Guard, DLNR, and private citizens. This series will go through each day of the eruption and tell the story from the lens of a Leilani Estates resident. The purpose of this series is to give a little more understanding of what it was like for a volcano to erupt in the middle of a community in which you call home. Footage in this episode courtesy of USGS, Mick Kalber, and Travis Sanders, and Andrew Hara. https://youtu.be/h7nGKMxkAa8
