4:25 AM · Jul 16, 2021Combined footage of the 2018 Kilauea Eruption, May 31st and June 1st. In this episode we watch as the large lava flow from Fissure 8 continues to advance on Kapoho as midnight evacuations take place. Fissure 8's march to the sea varies in speed, but is persistent. We also look at the first of many collapse-explosions at the Summit of Kilauea, which would generate the force of a magnitude 5.2 earthquake. This series tells one version of the 2018 Kilauea eruption on the Lower East Rift Zone, where lava erupted in a residential neighborhood. The story is told through available footage from many sources, including USGS, Hawaii Count Civil Defense, DoD, National Guard, DLNR, and private citizens. This series will go through each day of the eruption and tell the story from the lens of a Leilani Estates resident. Footage in this episode courtesy of USGS, DOD, Hawaii County Civil Defense, Mick Kalber, Scott Wilson, Ikaika Marzo, and Andrew Hara. https://youtu.be/m1WM5jxyZzM
