5:14 AM · Jun 11, 2021

Combined footage of the 2018 Kilauea Eruption, May 22nd and 23rd. In this episode, the eruption continues to feed an ocean entry by MacKenzie State Park as activity slowly works it way up the rift zone. Perched ponds of lava have collected around a few of the active fissures. This series tells one version of the 2018 Kilauea eruption on the Lower East Rift Zone, where lava erupted in a residential neighborhood. The story is told through available footage from many sources, including USGS, Hawaii Count Civil Defense, DoD, National Guard, DLNR, and private citizens. This series will go through each day of the eruption and tell the story from the lens of a Leilani Estates resident. Footage in this episode courtesy of USGS, DOD, Hawaii County Civil Defense, Mick Kalber, Scott Wilson, Ikaika Marzo, and Andrew Hara.
