Drones On - June 4th & 5th, 2018 Kilauea Eruption - Kapoho Inundated

4:30 AM · Aug 6, 2021

Combined footage of the 2018 Kilauea Eruption, June 4th and 5th. In this episode lava makes ocean entry in Kapoho Bay. Hundreds of homes are lost over the course of this episode as a very wide flow front methodically erases the coastal community. Caldera collapse events at the summit of Kilauea continue, and we get USGS footage from Jaggar museum inside the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park as one of these sudden drops of the caldera floor takes place. This series tells one version of the 2018 Kilauea eruption on the Lower East Rift Zone, where lava erupted in a residential neighborhood. The story is told through available footage from many sources, including USGS, Hawaii Count Civil Defense, DoD, National Guard, DLNR, and private citizens. This series will go through each day of the eruption and tell the story from the lens of a Leilani Estates resident. Footage in this episode courtesy of USGS, DOD, Hawaii County Civil Defense, Travis Sanders, Mick Kalber, Scott Wilson, and Ikaika Marzo. https://youtu.be/J7OV6nn7EdQ
