Drones On - 2018 Kilauea Eruption, May 27th, Ep 1 - Hell Night

3:24 AM · Apr 28, 2021

This is part 1 of a new series on the 2018 eruption of Kilauea in the Lower East Rift Zone on Hawaii Island as seen by USGS drones, narrated by Dane DuPont. The eruption started in Leilani Estates before moving further down the rift zone. In this series resident of Leilani Estates Dane DuPont of Hawaii Tracker reviews USGS-HVO's recently release archive of Unoccupied Aircraft Systems (drone) video. The archive starts on May 27th 2018, with the reactivation of Fissure 8, and progresses throughout the rest of eruption. The purpose of this series is to give a little more understanding of what it was like for a volcano to erupt in the middle of a community in which you call home.

Mahalo Dane for the amazing drone footage and your description of what it was like to be in the path of the lava flow. I could feel your great loss. Sending Love from Haida Gwaii.
