Maunaloa Eruption Summary, Day 6: Trends Continue, New Maps & Webcams

Day 6 of Maunaloa's eruption continued the recent trend, with slow advance of the longest flow front and the shutoff of the previously sluggish Fissure 4. Now 2.4 miles from the main road, over the past day the flow front has advanced an average of 13 meters or yards per hour, but this can be expected to vary. New maps show the full SW summit flows above Kona, only active for the first 6 hours of the eruption, that spanned from above 13,300' elevation down to below the 11,000' contour. Without further changes, there is little threat to people or property, though the potential closure of the cross-island highway would have significant impacts on transportation travel times.
