M5.2 Earthquake Near Waipio Valley at 1:43pm
12:17 AM · Jul 6, 2021A magnitude 5.2 earthquake has been recorded roughly 6.5 miles to the northwest of Waipio Valley, with a depth of 26.9km. The depth and location of the earthquake indicate that is was a lithospheric flexure earthquake associated with the weight of the island stressing the crust and upper mantle of the earth. There is no tsunami threat (confirmed by PTWC), or changes to the volcanic alert level of our volcanoes. These types of earthquakes are not connected to changes in volcanic activity. Reports from those that felt the quake include Oahu and Kauai.
