Kīlauea Quick Take: Eruption Stops As Vent Drowns, What's Next?

4:34 AM · May 29, 2021

A short video update on the apparent end stages of Kīlauea’s eruption, the resulting downgrading of the volcano’s status by the USGS, and the possible consequences of future eruptions on the liquid lava that still exists under the hardened crust. We include thermal and visible time-lapses, monitoring data, and photos courtesy of the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
