In a video posted by GoHawaii (Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau), Sam Ohu Gon III reveals what it means malama Hawaii. "When I find myself in native forests, I'm hurled like 500... a 1,000 years into the past. And I tell people to pause and recognize that you're entering into a very special realm. Let your intentions be felt, and wait for a response." Malama means to "to take care of", and reforestation efforts made by Sam and many other caretakers helps preserve the indigenous forests of Hawaii.
