Highway 132 Reopened, Taking A Drive Through The Steam - VIDEO

1:55 AM · Mar 11, 2021

A day after Highway 132 was closed by HPD due to a lack of visibility, the roadway has been reopened. Recent rains seeped down and interacted with hot lava from the 2018 eruption of Kilauea insulated below the surface, creating thick billows of steam on both sides of the road. Significantly less steam on this drive through than was seen yesterday when the road was closed following a traffic accident. Anymore steam than this and the GoPro lens would have fogged up, this was the only clip not ruined by condensation immediately after passing through the first billow.

Fairly steamy, but still visible. Hopefully we're through the worst of it

ya, hopefully. Haven't seen it as bad as when they closed it since the road was put it.

If that was the only clip when the GoPro didn't fog up I can only imagine how much more steam there must have been further on.
