Former HPD Chief Louis Kealoha Sentenced to 7yrs, Katherine Kealoha gets 13yrs
8:00 PM · Dec 1, 2020Former Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha and his partner, former deputy prosecutor Katherine Kealoha, have been sentenced to 7 years and 13 years in federal prison. Their story of corruption has baffled many, representing one Hawaii's worst cases of duplicity, fraud, and abuse of power. The couple was convicted in U.S. District Court in June 2019, with additional plea agreements made in October 2019 for identity theft, bank fraud, and drug related charges. The sentience for Katherine Kealoha includes a fine of $454,984.78, and an additional 9 years of supervised release when she is eventually freed. Louis Kealoha must also pay $238,198.56 in restitution, and will have three years of supervised release after the 7 year sentence. Two former members of the Honolulu Police Department were also charged and convicted in connection with Louis and Katherine Kealoha's strange conspiracy to frame their own uncle of stealing the couple's home mailbox. The strange situation with their own uncle is not the only instance of targeting family members in what her lawyer argued was due to Katherine Kealoha prescription drug addiction. Katherine Kealoha orchestrated a reverse mortgage scheme that forced her then 90 year old grandmother to sell her home to maintain the couples lifestyle that they couldn't afford. The sentencing of the two and two former HPD officers has been delayed for months due to COVID-19 concerns, the sentencing of the connected officers that reported to former Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha is scheduled for today (12/1/20).
