Highway 132 Lava Popcorn - Cooking With Dane Highway 132 is the first highway re-established over lava flows from the 2018 eruption done to Federal Highway standards. The road goes over and cuts through 3.2 miles of lava, and some areas on the side of the road remain hot enough to make popcorn on the surface of the rocks. These areas along the road are hot enough to make starting a camp fire quite easy. The hottest location previously identified during road construction remains one of the hottest areas we have encountered post-eruption, currently measuring 810degF just inside the crack with a thermalcouple. The hottest areas correspond to where lava flows are the thickest. This video was recorded in a section where the recent lava flows are 66-82 feet deep near the Kapoho Crater (Green Mountain). https://youtu.be/nFbzQZNcoy0
