One year ago overnight on May 19-20, lava from the 2018 Kīlauea eruption entered the ocean for the first time in the Malama-Kī / Kaukulau vicinity near McKenzie State Park. At some point, the portion of the ocean entry closest to the Park formed a lava "bridge" resembling an arch. This feature lasted only a few months before it crumbled into the sea during a hurricane swell. I was fortunate to capture it before it was gone.
